We here at BD love our Nars, and Francois' spring line gives us yet another reason to celebrate. The theme throughout is sophisto-sparkle, but without making you look like a club kid. Our favorite of the lot: a Glitter Pencil in new color Roxbury. It's silver but goes on fairly sheer, so all you get is an un-messy diffusion of blendable, cool-white eye bling. Bonus: wetting the pencil will make for an application intense enough for even Michael Alig's approval. Next stop, Limelight! $24 at www.sephora.com

It's packaged like a deodorant and has the texture of Chap-Stik, yet it goes on your feet. To be fair, you can apply Deep Steep's shea and cocoa butter-loaded Moisture Stick on your elbows or even use it as a massage oil, but it was the inventors' attention to foot care that made us feel like they had their friends at BD in mind. We tested it after having foregone a pedicure for several months (all in the name of science, of course) and were de-scaled within two days. It comes in four powerful scents but our fave, by a toe, is grapefruit-bergamot. $16 at www.deepsteep.com

Even though the beauty press has lionized the gentleness and SPF of titanim dioxide- and mica-infused "mineral makeup," the companies that make it are still, for the most part, hard-to-find little indies. So thank us now (checks can be made out to "Beauty Duty") for bringing to your attention La Bella Donna's Compressed Mineral Foundation: a pressed powder with amazing coverage (skip the liquid foundation) that has all the aforementioned benefits and, for once, doesn't oxidize (and change color) when your sebaceous glands start their daily party. Make sure to moisturize well underneathour one complaint is that the stuff can be a tad drying. $50 at www.labelladonna.com

Hinterview Fabien Baron—graphics guru, branding visionary, multitasking myth-maker—can do more in 15 minutes than just about anyone. So it was no great surprise when news spread earlier this year that he'd been named editorial director of Andy Warhol's Interview. At his new West Village digs, he opened up to Hint about everything from his redesign of the magazine to his designs on the White House.
Shoptart You might think, given his collaboration with leather-goods house Schott, that Jeremy Scott is going butch. After all, Schott created the biker jackets worn by Marlon Brando and James Dean. But no, that manly legacy is given a swishy twist, like this rococo tea print of treasure trolls in pastoral repose. Also this month: Marni, Stella McCartney, Tom Binns and more. |
