You owe it to yourself to look good

Sometimes we have to let the marketing materials speak for themselves. It's not that they capture something we can't, it's just that occasionally we need you to see what we go through. Take parfumeur du jour Jean-Claude Ellena's new boy-scent for Hermès, Terre d'Hermès: "A fragrance for men between the earth and the sky... Transformation of matter from raw to refined, the object becomes poetry." With gum resin, mineral flint and pepper, the object sounds about as welcoming as a poorly attended reading in a Northern California coffee house, but it's actually crisp, herby, sophisticated and complex. (If only we could have made that rhyme.) 3.3 fl oz for $90 at Barneys New York, 660 Madison Avenue, 212-826-8900.

For all that we love a bit of lipcolor, its oft-dehydrating properties can be unkind to the very organ it aims to doll up. Kissing it better, in a cute little compact, is Givenchy's new Baby Lips Palette. It features a gentle exfoliant (with bamboo microspheres, if you must know) to deter chapping, a conditioning balm and two almost-clear glosses which add either a rosy or golden sheen to whatever mean old color you might be wearing. $38 at Saksfifthavenue.com.
We have long loved Claus Porto soaps, with their oh-so-art deco Portuguese realness packaging and sweet, sweet scents. New to the company are soy candles, so you can enjoy the delicate bouquet of your favorite soap while still wallowing in your grime. On the lovely box in which comes Banho, aka citron verbena, we're told that verbena was "thought to rekindle the dying flames of love." The verdict is still out on that, but my how nice our apartment smells.

We city chicks face aggravants that our kinder, gentler country sistren will never know. Soot, smog and secondhand smoke need a specific kind of soothing. Leave it to the French, who know from secondhand smoke and dizzingly specific skincare, to lead the charge with Sampar, a city-specific line of cutely packaged, fairly priced goods. Their light, aptly named Crème de Reve (98 euros) hydrates and calms with peptides, nut extract and jojoba oil.

Our commitment issues don't just keep our therapist in business, they also mean we buy entirely too much blush. What can we do? Sometimes we just don't want to wear powder. Saving us all from having to buy cream duplicates of a good color is a cool new little line called Beauty Addicts, whose blush compact gives you a color two-fer of matte powder and cream. Of the four pared-down groupings, the bronzey-pinky neutral Express is both blendable and flattering to our newly acquired tan.

Fabien Baron—graphics guru, branding visionary, multitasking myth-maker—can do more in 15 minutes than just about anyone. So it was no great surprise when news spread earlier this year that he'd been named editorial director of Andy Warhol's Interview. At his new West Village digs, he opened up to Hint about everything from his redesign of the magazine to his designs on the White House.

01, 22, 16. Nope, it’s not bingo night; it's the numerical filing system at Maison Martin Margiela. Adding to the mathematical fun is a new line of fine jewelry in absurdist proportions and scale. Also this month: Comme de Garçons for H&M, Louis Vuitton and more. By Franklin Melendez
