Hintsters rant, rave and ruminate on fashion and beyond...
THU, AUG 28:
After transforming a historic building in lower Manhattan into a "sound scultpure," David Byrne has set his sights on New York's bike racks. The former Talking Head has created nine novelty shapes (high heel, dog, dollar sign), which explains the red shoe in front of Bergdorf Goodman.
WED, AUG 27:
Thrift stores aren't what they used to be. Chaired by Marc Jacobs, Housing Works will launch Fashion for Action on 11/14, a 3-day shopping bonanza with new merch from the likes of Calvin Klein, Burberry, Dior, Fendi and YSL at up to 80% off, preceeded by a VIP reception on 11/13.
TUE, AUG 26:
The world's smallest book (and most frustratingly cute thing ever) is now on view in Selfridges' Wonder Room. The leather-bound art book by German typographer Joshua Reichert is a mere 2.4 x 2.9 mm. What's inside? The ABCs.
MON, AUG 25:
Engineered Garments, the cult-followed Americana-obsessed Japanese label, has opened a "Country Store" at the East Village men's shop Den, selling thermals, plaids, button-fly jeans and other outdoorsy pieces, in addition to a new women's line. Get ready for another lumberjack go-around.
FRI, AUG 22:
Albert Maysles, the legendary filmmaker of Grey Gardens who Jean-Luc Godard once called "the best American cameraman," will make an appearance at Rogan Bouwerie on 8/26 to screen rarely seen clips. Of what, we can't say, but you can be sure we'll give you the goods. (GG fans will also appreciate this.)
