Just the Pics, Please

Fast-snarking funny girl Lena Dunham and her gal pals aren't the type to take their nightlife lightly, but rather face it with epic banter and fierce wit. Following the star-studded premiere of season two of the HBO hit Girls, they shimmied over to the after-party at Capitale in the LES, where, despite their charming slacker pretensions, they handled their toast-of-the-town duties with 20-something ease, mingling with girl-power pioneers Cindy Sherman and Debbie Harry, all while plotting their complete domination of the entertainment industrial complex.

Just the Pics, Please

Once again, Art Basel Miami proved a gawkable display of art and commerce—a barometric swirl of new works and old money, blue periods and red carpets, upcomers and beach-goers. And once again, Patrick McMullan was there to capture it all. Here, a slideshow of the parties that were...

M/M (Paris) book launch

Just the Pics, Please

Michaël Amzalag and Mathias Augustiniak of M/M (Paris) celebrated the release of their first book, as well as their 20th anniversary, in the stone chapel of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Titled M à M, the weighty monograph (published in the U.S. by Rizzoli in spring 2013) alphabetically chronicles their graphic-design projects and collaborations—i.e. Givenchy, Björk, Balenciaga—starting with M....

Just the Pics, Please

With polka dots, tentacles, and a few nutjobs, the gang was all there at the opening of Yayoi Kusama's major exhibit at the Whitney Museum last night. The evening also served to celebrate the 83-year-old artist's collaboration with Louis Vuitton, again laden with polka dots. With an appearance by the Kusama herself, complete with neon-red hair, the night's festivities came full circle.

Just the Pics, Please: Met Gala

Here they are, the decked-out arrivals at the Met Gala last night. An archival army of Prada and a blitz of Schiaparelli pink made for a riot of glamour on the red carpet. Photos by Chance Yeh for Patrick McMullan...

Kraftwerk Retrospective

Just the Pics, Please: Kraftwerk

As if their few lyrics weren't already well-articulated through a vocoder, Kraftwerk put them up on a giant screen behind them as they played their sold-out retrospective show at MoMA. Also enlarged onscreen: pills, race bikes and effervescent tablets dissolving in water—because they're Kraftwerk and they can. Photos by Patrick McMullan...

Just the Pics, Please

Like the personal appearances designers used to make to meet their adoring clientele, Alber Elbaz swooped into Barneys New York today in a flurry of ribbons and flowers for an intimate presentation of his fall 2012 Lanvin collection.

Hosted by a preggers Uma Thurman, the afternoon get-together was also a celebration of Alber Elbaz's first decade at the house. “It’s almost like California cuisine," he said in a pre-show speech. "We take the tradition, but we take off the butter and replace it with olive oil. The house of Lanvin is the oldest couture house in the world. And so I took some old pieces and remade them to be relevant, and that’s what it’s about...Because there’s nothing intellectual about a red dress, and there’s nothing intellectual about a roasted chicken. It’s just beautiful.”
