The art of parties and beyond

i-D, Le Book
Jun. 15, 2005: Kaiser Karl once said, "You can't book without Le Book," and Wednesday's swishy soiree to celebrate the glossy trade's first quarter-century underscored the clipped quip. Sponsored by Land Rover and i-D magazine, also celebrating twenty-five years, the bash drew a slew of names from the fashion and entertainment industries to Skylight Studios, including Terry Jones and Veronique Kolasa—publishers of i-D and Le Book, respectively—more models than a used car lot (we swear that's the last time we use that line, it just seemed apropos here), including Daria Werbowy, Julia Stegner and America's Next Top Model Naima Mora; fashion photogs Mario Sorrenti and Craig McDean; and stylists Tabitha Simmons and Patti Wilson. The Juan Maclean and Xavier, recording artists from downtown label DFA, performed for a jammed crowd (several hundred were turned away), who also enjoyed visuals featuring work by Sorrenti, McDean, Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchelier and Ellen von Unwerth. Land Rover used the event as an opportunity to unveil its newly styled, fully equipped 2006 Range Rover Sport, which saw Amanda Lepore and Richie Rich writhing on its hood for an impromptu photo shoot. -H.
