It was practically a Kill Bill reunion when Uma Thurman and Lucy Liu turned up, separately, at the packed launch party and dinner for the Longchamp flagship in SoHo, its 100th store worldwide. And, as if on cue, film dominated the evening from that point on. "It's not based on real events," Uma told us about her upcoming release, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, a comedy in which she plays a superhero who seeks revenge on a mortal ex-boyfriend for breaking up with her. There with her father, Robert, she then regaled us with her love of Longchamp, which came as no surprise considering the Thurmans long been friends with the Cassegrain family, who own and run the French luxury bag label. Meanwhile, the three girls of Les Putafranges, our fave new DJs, were flown in from Paris to spin for the crowd made pretty by models Lydia Hearst, Anouck Lepere and Maggie Rizer, who said she's been busy gearing up for her annual M.A.C. Viva Glam Casino benefit, this year inspired by the "sights and sounds of 1920's Shanghai." Other hautable notables included Isabella Rossellini, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mario Sorrenti and Susan Sarandon, who was dwarfed by her actress-daughter, Eva Amurri. Despite the Hollywood turnout, the architect of Longchamp's massive new retail space and headquarters, Thomas Heatherwick, remained cool and collected, preferring to muse about the pervasive infatuation that industrial designers seem to harbor for Japanese fashion (he was clad in Issey Miyake). Set to debut on the big screen himself, in Larry Clark's Wassup Rockers, Jeremy Scott popped in to flog the limited-edition bags he designed for Longchamp, following Tracy Emin's collaboration last year. Emblazoned across his three-bag collection, designed to look like wooden cargo crates, are the words "This is not your bag," "Paris" and "Fragile." And fragile is probably how many a party-goer felt the next morning.
