| Jun 08: Thanks to our wonderfully wired and share-happy times, you needn't be Anna Piaggi or Daphne Guinness to have a global fashion audience follow your style. Everywhere from London to Ljubljana, people who dress to express themselves crave the validation and connection that comes from showing off and comparing their edge with like-minded folk. Now they can do just that with I Like My Style, a new website and online community started by New York-based, Cologne-born culture journalist Adriano Sack. Barely six months old, the site has already won over an international fan base with its chic design and simple mission, which, says Sack, is to provide "a place for people who want to be seen," whether they're "on the streets, in a palace, in bed or on a date." In contrast to the numerous blogs that document the style of a city through portraits of denizens picked and photographed by self-appointed arbiters, on ILMS the subjects post the pictures themselves. And they do so not just from fashion capitals, but often from far-off-the-radar places. (Ever heard of Kelowna? Neither had we. It's in Canada and there's at least one fashion hound there.) Images are accompanied by descriptions of key pieces, while other users can comment and rate the looks, thus creating a sprawling, slightly narcissistic photo album. What's more, befitting its stylish content and the German roots of its founder, the site looks like a page out of a European Vogue, meticulously organized by category (Most Viewed, Shoes, etc.) or designer name. As for the outfits themselves, the taste level is surprisingly high considering the posts are unedited, but we'll let you be the judge.
