Viktor & Rolf
May 08: Follow the ribbon into the light. No, that's not some esoteric entreaty from a friendly unicorn we stumbled upon in the forests of fashionland. We're talking about the sinuous strip of black satin that guides visitors through the various salons of a marble palace that is Viktor & Rolf's sparkling new website. Appropriately set to fairy-tale music, the virtual tour is the latest magic trick from the Dutch designers known for far-reaching showmanship, ironic ingenuity and envelope-pushing clothes. While you won't find, through doorways that flicker mysteriously, wand-wielding wizards or a snoozing damsel in a pillow-collared gown (we didn't make that one up, check the label's fall '05 collection), you will discover all the designer-site essentials. These include videos and photos from current and past collections, biographies and a showcase for the house's fragrances, Flowerbomb and Antidote, as well as screensavers and widgets (is it wrong that we still don't know what this is?). Along the way, you run into the perennially tux-clad masters of the house, sometimes with their equally dapper dachshunds in tow. And if you find yourself wanting more, be grateful the duo resisted their penchant for turning things upside-down, or you'd be in a neck brace after your enchanted visit.
