Whitney Lights Up

Art Basel may be a distant hangover, but that doesn’t mean the arty party is over. Just announced is the list for the 2010 Whitney Biennial, the biannual (duh) exhibition that serves as the official induction for a new generation of art stars. We’re happy to note that this year’s list includes some of our fashionable favorites, including front-row staple Aurel Schmidt, whose haunting pencil drawings made the cut. She's ample proof that one can canoodle with fashion editors, make Alexander Wang’s front row and still have time to build a serious art career—and look good doing it, too.

Other highlights include Deitch Projects painter Tauba Auerbach (who you may remember in head-to-toe Marni from the pages of Vogue) and photographer Ari Marcopoulos, whose vivid snapshots have graced countless glossies. Perhaps our arty brethren are lightening up and acknowledging the delicate art of looking good. Whatever the case, and much more importantly, this means the opening night fete should shape up to be a more attractive affair than usual, which should justify the trek to the Upper East Side in late February.
