Bibliophiles rejoice! The musty scent of a library has finally been bottled—and, of course, Karl Lagerfeld is involved.
The project was conceived after a kismet moment at last year's Wallpaper Handmade exhibition in Milan, where the UK glossy took inspiration from a line by German publisher Gerhard Steidl in the film How to Make a Book with Steidl. In it, he says his favorite scent is "a freshly printed book."
After bringing on board a team including Steidl himself (who assembled essays on the subject), avant-perfumer Geza Schoen (who created the fragrance) and the inimitable Kaiser. Steidl's longtime friend was called upon to design the book-like, red packaging and choose a fitting name: Paper Passion. Smells like Teutonic spirit.
