While the details of designer Gareth Pugh's upcoming partnership with MAC Cosmetics remain very much a mystery, news has broken of another, and probably more colorful, collaboration with Cindy Sherman. Despite her recent photo series with Balenciaga, it seems the art darling isn't too haute to kick it with a populist beauty brand.
For the limited-edition collection, Sherman—known for her conceptual self-portraits in which she dons sometimes humorous, sometimes alarming guises—has taken MAC's motto of Power of Transformation to the extreme. She's created three quirky characters using three very different color stories. There's the plum-lipped and cat-eyed Hitchcock Heroine; the creepy, clownish Plastic Surgery Maven, and rosy-cheeked Caravaggio Corpse—all with enough powders, liners, lipsticks and glosses to satisfy the multiple personalities in all of us.
