Daphne Guinness & Hogan McLaughlin

Daphne Guinness' Private Collection of Clothes Is So Amazing It Got Its Own Exhibit

For somebody who doesn’t like being referred to as a muse, Daphne Guinness sure embodies the characteristics of one. Not a fashion icon in the lying-around-looking-bored way, Guinness’s support of and collaboration with designers young and established leaves other, self-proclaimed muses assuming an almost falsified affectation.

Thursday night, capping Fashion Week, The Museum at FIT launched a five-month display of Guinness’s most cherished personal items of clothing. These include garments by Gareth Pugh, Chanel, Rick Owens, Azzedine Alaia, and of course, mounds of Alexander McQueen, a close friend. In addition to her enviable closet, the Daphne Guinness show will also screen several short films, some of which Guinness produced herself, putting her among the ranks of the very talents she's influenced.

For the opening night, Guinness wore the work of designer Hogan McLaughlin. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you haven’t heard of him. McLaughlin released his first collection only this year and, after a few solicitous tweets, Guinness was hooked. Let’s just hope that this affair has a happy ending.
