John Cage's One11

Hint Tip: John Cage at the High Line

It won't be long before the summer calm once again morphs into the storm of Fashion Week. In one last glimmer of civility, the High Line will commemorate what would have been the 100th birthday of the pioneering avant-garde artist and composer John Cage, who passed away twenty years ago. Beginning August 2, Cage's combined film and sound composition One11 (which features nothing more than spotlights panning across an empty TV studio) and 103 (a 17-part orchestral work) will play on a continuous loop at one of the pedestrian park's entrances.

A partnership between High Line Art, Friends of the High Line and Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI), the screening is the first edition of HIGH LINE CHANNEL 14, a program of film, video, and sound installations in the 14th Street Passage at West 14th Street. Can’t make it to the High Line quite yet? The screenings run through September 13, the last day of New York’s spring collections.
