Warm and fuzzy, Mother's Day seems like the ideal time to announce a children's line, as Lanvin did today. Remember, Jeanne Lanvin started out making cute little sundresses for her daughter about a century ago, before being recruited to make them for her daughter's friends, and before those other moms soon wanted grown-up versions for themselves. Before long, a phenomenon was born and a designer was incorporated. The original spirit of playfulness exists to this day in Alber Elbaz's insouciant designs.
As we approach Mother's Day, Lanvin will only reveal that the spring '12 "luxury collection of 25 products for little girls aged between four and ten" will be unveiled in a show in June and available as early as November. They also sent this single image from 1929 of Jeanne Lanvin's early, girly dresses, in another reminder that everything was more charming back then, before tees and dungarees.
