Never ones to follow convention, the trio behind threeASFOUR showed their spring collection away from the crowds, at the Jewish Museum on the Upper East Side. The venue is the site of Mer Ka Ba, an exhibition of the boundary-pushing designers' work, and the collection was fittingly a work of art.
Riffing on sacred imagery, designers Gabriel Asfour, Angela Donhauser, and Adi Gil showed lavishly detailed looks that called to mind arabesques, crystalline shapes and fractal geometry. In crisp black and white, the designers pushed texture to the edge, using laser cuts and 3D-printing to create sculptural shapes along with some imminently wearable pieces like cut-out leggings — destined for a major pop star.
The show ended with three short dresses that enveloped the models — not exactly ready-to-wear, but perfectly at home in an art museum.
