Nobuyoshi Araki Photo Exhibit

While the fashion world suffered through arctic temperatures in Paris, Angelenos braved their own cold front—sixty degrees—for photo provocateur Nobuyoshi Araki’s latest exhibition. Hosted in the slick PRISM space on Sunset, the show featured large black-and-white portraits of nubile geishas bound and contorted into all sorts of exotic positions. The brazen photos have made the master a sensation in his native Japan, but also captured the imagination of the fashion faithful, including the Rodarte sisters, who often credit his dark sensuality as a source of inspiration. He’s also recently graced the pages of Vogue Hommes Japan, whipping Lady Gaga herself into submission.

Never one to miss a good flash of skin, Angelenos packed the space. Lingering over some of the more acrobatic poses. Also on hand: Adrien Brody, Lapo Elkann and Andre Balazs, who may have been looking for story lines for his potential TV series. The ladies also didn’t shy from the sexy spectacle, including Guinevere van Seenus and cheeky curator Shamim Momin. When asked what her favorite geisha was, she simply winked and smacked me suggestively on the rump—a little discipline never hurts.
