Rodarte's First Book

It seems like just yesterday that Rodarte's Kate and Laura Mulleavy were two bright-eyed, fresh-faced designers from Pasadena trying to crack into the razzle-dazzle New York fashion scene. Now, only a few short seasons later, they've won a CFDA award (the top honor, no less); created costumes for their celebrity friends' movies (40 looks for Natalie Portman's ballerina thriller, Black Swan, out this fall); appeared on Martha Stewart; whipped up a sold-out line for Target; and branched out into men's (Barneys has started selling artfully distressed cardigans for $2,875). What more could two sisters hope for? How about a book? Voila! Due this September, "Rodarte" (JRP|Ringier) is a 144-page coffee table crusher, mostly the fruit of art stars Catherine Opie and Alec Soth. You may remember we reported on an under-the-radar project between Rodarte and Opie, a teacher at UCLA's art school. Well, this could be it, and you won't find it on your iPad.
