Vivienne Westwood

A Leaner, Greener Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood is making a homecoming of sorts. Having always shown her top-tier men's line, MAN Label, in Milan, the British designer announced she'll begin showing it London, starting with the men's fall collections in January. And she'll merge it with her women's Red Label, making official the mix of genders she's long shown on the runway.

The new entity will become her signature line and be known simply as Vivienne Westwood. Her Paris show, meanwhile, will be rebranded Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood, taking into account the contributions of her husband and design partner, and will similarly present unisex offerings.

The aim, she said, is to "reduce our company in size. And reduce it to its essentials. Selling only what we love. Our whole structure will be directed by quality. Buy less, choose well, make it last." Westwood has long espoused an anti-materialistic, more eco-sustainable approach to fashion consumption, so it seems she's now putting her money where her mouth is.
