LC: Any photographers you admire, past or present?
NK: When I first started out in '79 I looked really strongly at Bauhaus photographers and Russian Deconstructivist photographers, people like Aleksandr Rodchenko. Recently, I remember looking at a shoot in Italian Vogue by Glen Luchford and, knowing about his Prada campaigns and the set of problems surrounding them, I found it to be a beautiful set of pics. And, of course, I studied the greatsthe Avedons, the Webers.
LC: Do you travel much?
NK: Not really, when I had children I decided not to re-sign my contract with American Vogue. I asked Anna not to re-sign me, which makes me probably the first photographer in history to do that. But between British and American Vogue, I was flying everywhere in the world. My first child was born in '93 and I felt I was missing her growing up. I don't want to look back with regret. I travel very rarely. I never go to LA, sometimes to New York.
