From jean therapy to rehabilitated shoes, Hint pays attention to retail
Designers have ditched the pretty peasant in favor of a sexier rustic muse who looks like a cross between a busty beer hall wench and Heidi. Miu Miu introduced the trend with layered dirndl skirts in folksy prints, while Alexander McQueen sent out stacked Spanish barmaids (left). The perfect look for tight-laced lasses who refuse to take any bullshit with their beer.
Want a chicer sneaker? Adidas's "Originals" line celebrates the company's history of innovative technology while giving trainer enthusiasts another reason to run out to stores. One of the standouts of the reprised collection is Forest Hills ($79.99), which features a high-tech ventilation system developed in tandem with NASA. Design collective Little Red Riding Hood puts a new spin on the fashion fable about sheepish designers who peddle conceptual clothing. Rather than making a skirt into a table à la Hussein Chalayan, the group produces independent clothing and art projects that are all inspired by the little lady in red. "Together we think up stories and variations on Little Red Riding Hood's story," says Frederic Leemans, one of the label's founders. "The constant reinvention makes for a new approach every season." Pieces available for sale in their online store range from appliqued and embroidered tops to a CD-ROM detailing the label's history. Limited-edition photographs and videos are available by special order.
