Hint pays attention to retail

This party season, give 'em the cold shoulder in Chloé's multi-tiered, strapless black chiffon dress. The frilly, flapperesque frock by Phoebe Philo reflects the Paris house's festive mood in its 50th year, and will work to ring in 2004 anywhere from Williamsburg to Berlin Mitte. Whether you throw on a white mink bolero or your biker girlfriend's motorcycle jacket, these ruffles were made for flaunting. Chloé, 850 Madison Ave., 212-717-8220. -Suleman Anaya

If you're fortunate enough to have a white Christmas this year, you won't have to reach far for a razor with Raf Simons's new line of silver jewelry. It features not only a necklace with a blade as the pendant, but also a 'Blue Monday' necklace with a square record sleeve to complement Simons's tribute this season to Peter Saville. The famed Factory Records founder and graphic designer responsible for the cover art of New Order and Joy Division is experiencing something of a fashion moment, having just wrapped an exhibition of his work at the London Design Museum and announcing he'll design a line of knits for the London label Clements Ribeiro this spring. But for now, the necklaces can be found at Seven New York, 180 Orchard Street, 646-654-0156, but don't delay because we're told there are precious few left.

Despite the jiggles and giggles the name inspires, Playboy has become very serious about fashion as of late. Last year, the bunny business opened its first freestanding boutique in Tokyo's posh Aoyama district, nestled among retail giants like Prada and Miu Miu. And now, the men's mag that the Viagra-popping Hugh Hefner first cooked up on his kitchen table 50 years ago celebrates its golden anniversary with a collection of limited edition designer duds by the likes of Donatella Versace and Vivienne Westwood. We subscribe to these 'Warhol' hats by Philip Treacy who, incorporating a print of Playboy's iconic rabbit head, has created three unisex styles: a mini trilby ($894), a cloche ($894) and a cap ($354). Available in New York at Henri Bendel, in London at Selfridges, and in Tokyo at the Playboy store.

As if you needed another reason to shop in Paris, Helmut Lang has opened a new store, his sixth worldwide, in the City of Lights' First Arrondissement (210 Rue St. Honoré). Designed by architect Richard Gluckman, the chic boutique showcases the full range of Lang designs for men and women, and continues the designer's love affair with the art world. The two-story store features a rotating exhibition by his friend and collaborator, the nonagenarian sculptor Louise Bourgeois; an LED installation on the staircase by Jenny Holzer; and pieces by the French midcentury modern furniture designer and architect Jean Prouve. If the sublime artwork and design—or the sight of a celebrity going into the VIP area upstairs—gives you a case of the vapors, there are also rows of Lang's signature oversized ottomans to sit and catch your breath.
