Hint pays attention to retail

In case you didn't know, we're crazy for unicorns, like the hopscotching, Easy-Baking little girls we really are. And it seems that Paris-based menswear designer Pierre-Henri Mattout has gone horn mad, too, at least judging from this hooded sweatshirt patched with images of the mythological, equine creature. Other nostalgic offerings from Mattout include Flashdance-colored pants, tennis-inspired shirts with colored inner folds, thin vintage-style ties and embossed flower details. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have some rainbows to chase. Available in New York at Jeffrey, 449 W. 14th St., 212-206-3928, and in Paris at Colette and Surface to Air.

Of all the reasons Bless is blessed, not least of them is co-designer Desiree Heiss's dad, who engineered this solid aluminum, Casio-style black watch for the fashion-as-art German line. The Bless girls call it a 'watchbangle' because of its round, inflexible shape, and it's one of many functional pieces inspired by industrial and product design that make up the duo's N°22 Perpetual collection. Or, as the girls say, "There's no need to see Bless as just fashion. Just be pleased by its all-purpose usability." $495, also available in steel and ebony wood. Count your blessings at Opening Ceremony (New York), 35 Howard St., 212-219-2688.

It's a boy! It's a girl! It's…A Bathing Ape. The Japanese street label with a prodigious cult following has finally delivered its long-awaited SoHo store, its first in the States. Bape, as the brand is commonly known, is the brainchild of designer Nigo, who is as elusive as he is diminutive, but nothing short of a fashion giant in Tokyo. His famous fondness for diamonds can be seen in the jewel-like design of the new bi-level boutique, with its lustrous white interior that showcases a selection of sweatshirts, tees, accessories and limited-edition toys, while the upstairs functions as a shoe shrine, with pairs displayed in glass cases like precious relics. Eventually, the store will carry Ice Cream sneakers, designed by Pharrell Williams in collaboration with Nigo, but at least the line's legions of devotees-from hip-hop moguls to suburban teens-can finally go Bape shit in New York. -Suleman Anaya
