From Japanime bags to Bollywood drag, Hint pays attention to retail
Having spent last summer in the Long Island beach community of Montauk, Helmut Lang makes a splash with his board-rattling spring line. But don't expect literal interpretations like wetsuits or Bermuda shorts. Instead, Lang opts for conceptual pieces that fit neatly into his clean, minimal aesthetic. Take, for example, this updated version of the aquasock, a pliable shoe that rides high style in to shore. Helmut Lang, 80 Greene St., 212-925-7214.

Dutch designer Christian Wijnants goes somewhere over the rainbow with his conspicuously cute spring line. Inspired by hippie chic and the Girl Scouts, he's cooked up a psychedelic, campfire-ready collection that celebrates 70's idealism. Wijnants's frothy frocks can be found at Pineal Eye in London, Colette in Paris and, stateside, at Henri Bendel (712 Fifth Ave., 212-247-1100) and Jeffrey (449 W. 14th St., 212-206-1272) where this confection-sweet ensemble is a steal at $175.
Self-proclaimed 'Rock Royalty' Stella McCartney has a hit on her hands with her skimpy spring collection. Sir Paul's designing daughter continues to add a first name to her famous surname, turning out sexy numbers that speak for themselves. For spring, she updates an 80's body-conscious silhouette, leaving the people to imagine little. Stella McCartney, 429 W. 14th St., 212-255-1556.
