Hint pays attention to retail

You don't have to know the first thing about athletics to pull off the sportif motif of Y3, the increasingly cultish women's and men's line from Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas. Like fashion on steroids, the range could endure the rigors of cross-training, but it's designed for an urban playing field. This polka-dot nylon jacket, with its ribbed collar and cuffs, will add style and stamina to your game this winter. The complete line is available Barneys New York, 660 Madison Ave, 212-826-8900.

While you're soaking in the sun and fun of São Paulo Fashion Week later this month, head to Clube Chocolate, the New World's newest concept store. Designed by Isay Weinfeld as Brazil's answer to Colette, the megastore sells all the latest fashion, books, music and gadgets, and even houses a cozy French restaurant in the basement. Along with home-grown talents, Clube Chocolate carries international labels such as Yohji Yamamoto, Marc Jacobs and Dolce & Gabbana on its four themed floors, each decked with only-in-Brazil amenities, from sand to sink your pedicured toes into to lush palm trees. Maybe it's because they're always on their backs, or maybe because they're called grease monkeys, but car mechanics really get us hot under the hood. And it seems we're not the only ones. London label Blaak modeled this denim jumper after the well-tooled servicemen, combining faux filth and high-tech pleat detailing in a raw display of lubed-up sex appeal. Designers Aaron Sharif and Sachiko Okada launched Blaak—a name derived, they say, from "the feeling you get from wearing black"—a year after graduating from Central Saint Martins in 1998. Several high-profile awards later, the East Enders are helping to reignite London's latent indie fashion scene. Available in London at Browns Focus, 38-39 South Molton Street, +44 (0) 20 7514 0063 and in Paris at Maria Luisa.

The trucker hat is strictly Route 66 and the cloche has been clocked. Leave it to David Mason, a graduate of Cal Arts—the school Walt Disney founded—to bring some magic to the world of millinery. Along with Peter Vilsack, a consultant for the Met's Costume Institute, the two cats in a hat have been whipping up chic chapeaus and other haute oddities from their West Village studio for just over a year. "We're more interested in the sprinkles than the cupcake," says Mason. Bringing that point home is this porcupine quill-adorned hat (top right, $225) called "The Kick." Available in New York at Hotel Venus, 382 W. Broadway, 212-966-4066 and in London at Harvey Nichols, 109-125 Knightsbridge, SW1X 7RJ, 020 7235 5000. -Cator Sparks
