Hint pays attention to retail

Wearing feathers can be tricky business. But you'll be well-plumed in the feather bolero seen here with a lurex knit jumpsuit, both by the folks at Missoni, surely still flying high from last October's golden anniversary party—a vast retrospective showcasing 110 pieces from the house's last fifty years. One of the more outré looks from an already kaleidoscopic spring collection, the jacket is yet another golden egg from the still ma-and-pa-run operation. Available at the Missoni boutiques in New York, 1009 Madison Ave., 212-517-9339 and in Milan, Via Montenapoleone 8, 02 76 00 35 55.

Literally turning fashion inside out, designer Jeffrey Costello and freelance fashion director Victoria Bartlett have teamed up to create VPL (aka Visible Panty Line), a new breed of underwear that does double duty as tanks, tees, skirts and shorts. The hospital-inspired indie undies aren't unlike men's nylon socks crossed with an Ace bandage—you won't find a trace of lace, corsetry or anything else that whiffs of lingerie. The co-creators have instead opted for concept over decoration, relying on aertex, mesh, cottons and a color palette of surgical green, nude and the occasional red to stitch together their not-so-whitey tighties. $40-$140 in London at Selfridges, Sunningdale Road, Leicester, LE3 1ZW, +44 8708 377 377; in Paris at Colette; and in New York at Barneys.

Inspired by the macabre mystery surrounding JonBenet Ramsey and the notorious English murderess Myra Hindley, Patrik Rzepski applies bruising and burial treatments to his spring 04 collection, mimicking the unsightly appearance of unearthed victims. The neo-gothic sensibility of the 20-year-old designer—who's been likened to a still wet-behind-the-ears Alexander McQueen—is a refreshing trip to dark side, far from the cloyingly rose-colored view of other young upstarts. A noble attempt to restore lost innocence? "Yes," he says, "but in the end they still end up six feet under." By special order, 212-844-9014. -Meridith Rohana
