East Village milliner Eugenia Kim is bringing back the art of hat-making with clever modern riffs on classic headwear. Kim's hottest model is her jaunty newsboy cap, which lends a little Oliver Twist appeal to urban urchins. "I start with simple shapes and subvert them to make them modern, and most of it's hand-made," says Kim. Spare some change by checking out Kim's sample sale from July 11-14. Red leather newsboy cap $265 at Eugenia Kim, 203 E. 4th St, 212-673-9787.
Frederique Daubal, an Amsterdam-based fashion and product designer, isn't afraid of outrageous ideas—the more fantastic the better. Daubal's stock-in-trade is conceptual chic, from handkerchiefs with Magritte-esque silk-screens of floating noses to discombobulated pseudo-shirts composed of only sleeves and a collar. Her website functions as a comprehensive catalogue of her work, including among other things, panties, buttons and wallpaper. Get surreal at www.daubal.com.
