From high-fashion accessories to low-culture grotesqueries,
Hint pays attention to retail
Laura Shepherd hates the opera-and-charity set but loves their gloves. The avant garde designer reinvents the anachronistic accessory for a more fashionable crowd, chopping off the fingers and adding edgy appliqués and prints. "We felt glove-making was a lost art that needed kicking into shape," she says. "We're creating 21st century gloves." Get your grubby paws on Shepherd's handiwork at www.glovedup.com.
Vivienne Westwood understands the importance of being busty; she loves to lampoon the stuffy sexuality of the British upper crust by sending out heavy-chested babes in seriously cinched corsets. While designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Alexander McQueen also showed versions of the overflowing female form this season, Westwood's vision is the most romantic. Squeeze yourself into one of her constricting creations at Vivienne Westwood, 71 Greene Street, 212-334-5200, or www.viviennewestwood.com.
