Hint pays attention to retail

Living up to its name, Diesel is the fuel behind a new vehicle for emerging designers called ITS (International Talent Support), a competition held every July in sunny Trieste, Italy that brings together some of the best young fashion designers from all over the world. From among the 600 contestants who entered last year's event (the second), Japanese designer Teppei Sugaya, a graduate of Tokyo's renowned Bunka Fashion College and a current Central Saint Martins student, took home the prize. Now, nearly a year later, the 24 year-old has delivered a vintage-inspired capsule collection of five women's pieces available only at select Diesel stores worldwide, including the Denim Galleries in New York, Tokyo and Berlin. -Suleman Anaya
"We must laugh at least twice a day, and we do," say designers Rikke and Helle of the four-year-old Danish line Baum und Pferdgarten (their last names) who, among other stunts, have distorted their country's royal flower into a pattern of skulls nestled among the sweet floral prints of their spring collection. With humor as their calling card, the duo says they were inspired by flowers of the Far East variety mixed with sailor stripes to create what a "sloppy Polish country girl" look. Sounds like someone's been dipping into the poppies. The line is, not surprisingly, a huge hit in Scandinavia and Japan, but can also be found in key shops around the world—check the website for a complete list. -Cator Sparks

At first, Sarah Blumenthal thought her future lied in the restaurant business, opening cafe after cafe before shrewdly following in little sis Alice Roi's stiletto footsteps last year (even Sarah will point out that, luckily for all, she did no cooking at her joints). Thus, untrained but undaunted, the sharp-witted scissor sister launched Sarah, an insouciant line of quasi-prom dresses in candy-colored satin, droopy knit hats, and screwball prints like this chiffon dress with a pink zebra motif. You couldn't ask for anything more from a self-described "punk rock jap who was raised by wild yentas." Available in New York at Henri Bendel, 712 Fifth Ave., 212-247-1100 and Amy Chan, 247 Mulberry St., 212-966-3417.

Soccer championship madness is sweeping Europe, providing ample evidence that foot gear is all that separates style fans from hooligans. But thanks to Puma's online store, choosing what side you're on couldn't be easier. The brand offers an exhaustive selection of authentic team outfits, from the deep azure of the Italians to the bright orange of the Dutch. Puma's white-hot designer sneakers—Jil Sander, Yasuhiro Mihara—aren't yet available, but gym rats and couch athletes alike will find what they need to get in shape or just look the part. -SA
